THE GREAT DIVIDE

THE GREAT DIVIDE 8” x 8”

Painting ‘Pointillist’ styley and planning for another new workshop!…

Pointillism was a pivotal technique developed in the mid-1880s and popularized by French artists Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.

Though pointillism was initially ridiculed, this painting style paved the way for modern movements like Fauvism and Cubism. Its legacy continues in the digital age, as the technique of using small dots (pixels) to create images is the fundamental principle behind modern screens and printing.

In contrast with Impressionism's spontaneity, the Pointillists scientific approach to colour, was rooted in contemporary colour theories.  It involves applying small, distinct dots of pure colour in patterns to form an image, relying on the viewer's eye and mind to blend the spots optically into a full range of tones.
