PICK & PAINT WORKSHOP

Always lovely to be back teaching at Micklem’s Farm Flowers and Creative Workshops.

People think that painting is relaxing - and in a way it is…you become immersed in it, loose track of time, but it also requires a lot of concentration.

Whilst being mindful of your objective - you must think about every single colour you mix, the size of the brush mark, the placement of it on the canvas…every painting you see below is a million tiny decisions. It is impossible to get them all right- that’s what keeps us painting! All you can do is carry forward the best bits and learn from the bits that do not please you so much.

There were some real beginners and also some more experienced students in the class. The beginners I admire for just being there - completely out of their comfort zone, challenging themselves to learning something new. Painting from life without the help of a photograph is not easy..

The more experienced painters in the group were really committed to painting more than just a pretty picture…the number of times I saw them happily wipe areas that they’d spent loads of time working on, trying again without being precious about what had gone before was admirable. Focussing only on the process and what it taught them along the way.

Their finished paintings are shown below. Well done everyone :)

I’ll be back on Wednesday 20th May teaching an ‘Abstract Florals’ workshop.‍ ‍Just a few spaces remaining.

Micklem’s Farm have an amazing variety of classes and one-day workshops on offer- see their website for details… they also do ‘pick your own flowers’ and cream teas in the garden in the summer.
