ABSTRACT SUNFLOWERS WORKSHOP

@oxford_summer_school  ‘Painting Sunflowers’ Workshop.

Over the three days workshop the students were: Drawing, Cutting, Collaging, Editing and Painting their way to an Abstract Sunflower Design. Focusing on Colour, Composition, Shape and Tone.

Starting with careful observation and a loose drawing of some real sunflowers, they then created collages in tonal papers using ‘Notan’ theory, a Japanese design principle based on the balance and harmony of light and dark areas in a composition. On day 2 they took inspiration from their ‘Notan’ designs’ abstract it further in colour, then choosing to paint from them in either acrylics, oils, or watercolour on day 3.

Great work everybody 😍👏
