HOT PINK REBEL - process shots
I loved having the hot pink as my background colour and keeping bits of it peaking through the flowers.
HOT PINK REBEL
I’ve always loved hot pink ever since I was 11 when my mum bought me a brand new batwing sleeved coat in that colour! I’m probably too old to wear hot pink now- but I still do!
GROWING OLD GRACEFULLY
The challenging thing about painting the same thing everyday is that you are forced to rethink it/ reinvent it/ change things up in some way. My next thought is to use the little squares from the vase as a pattern in the background too.
VINTAGE VASE
Time to ramp it up again with a highly contrasting background to show up those lovely curls on the petals. The vase - whilst decorative, was actually almost hidden against the background so I felt I achieved contrast and subtlety.
BOMBAY SAPPHIRE
I can’t think of a better excuse to finish a bottle of gin - can you??The gin bottle was perfect for holding the stem vertically and allowing me to paint the flowers in profile.
PSYCHOKENETIC
I decided to use a limited palette here and try to emphasise the lime and turquoise.
STRANGER THINGS
These lilies are still in bud so i’m hoping to paint them every day as they emerge. This one was all about the negative spaces and strange shadows!
UNIFORMITY
I can’t keep calling these ‘flowers in a vase’- so i’ve decided to name them after something that happened to me that day!
DAISY-MAE the Birman Cat
Sometimes when you know an animal is pale coloured it can be very hard to convince yourself that the shadow colours are correct. I am aiming to get my brushstrokes down ’right first time’ with no re-working.
FLYNN the Border Terrier
Wiry haired dogs are definitely the hardest to paint, you’ve got to kind of drag one colour through another on the palette so that you get that ‘flecking’ in the brushwork of two or more colours.
