NUGGET

A cute commission for the lady who recently helped me update my website. I thoroughly recommend her …please follow this link to her business: www.artfullypromoted.co.uk if you would like to know more about her work.

Nugget. 8” x 8” oil on board.

Process shots.

Grayson Perry leaves the eyes till last…that’s just weird to me!

The eyes never look right until you get the eyebrows in…that kind of frames them and makes them look real. Till then - my advice to students is aways - just paint what you see - forget that it’s an eye!

Two important things to remember:

1: Put in the shadow of the eyelid on the eyeball…otherwise you will get what I call ‘spooky eyes’!

2: The ‘whites’ of the eyes are never white. They are always a midtoned neutral.

There is a great example of a well painted eye by ‘Jane French’, that I use in workshops, that demonstrates how to do it well (shown below).

If you’d like to commission a painting please get in touch. Or if you’d like to try a pet painting workshop, see whats available by clicking on the ‘workshops’ tab.
