FLORAL STILL LIFE WORKSHOP @ LSA
Great work from a group of students in a ‘Floral Still Life workshop at the “LSA - Springboard Studios’ last week. We were looking at arranging and lighting a jar of seasonal flowers with different coloured backgrounds, creating interesting and unusual compositions and colour relationships. Some quick compositional sketches to start, then choosing one to paint on the canvas or board. Looking to apply the paint in a dynamic and interesting way: focusing on colour, brushwork and composition.
Love this sketch Shelley…
It takes bravery to splatter a ‘finished’ painting! As one teacher used to say to me….’Don’t be afraid to murder your darlings’!
Which background colour would you chose ???
Lovely muted palette in oils (not finished yet). Look how beautifully Jaime has caught the light on the daffodils.
I can always spot a ‘watercolourist’ who chooses to use acrylics! Both acrylics and oils can be used thinly in a watercoloury kind of way.
I was so impressed with how everyone tackled their ‘stalks in a glass vase’ to make them look realistic… there are a few useful tips I keep up my sleeve for doing this! Come try a workshop and I’ll teach you how!!
