BEGINNERS ART CLASSES - MICKLEM’S FARM, BERKSHIRE

I’m really excited to have started teaching the Beginners Art Class, Autumn Term at Micklem’s Farm in Berkshire ,’ with two lovely groups of students up for the challenge of learning to draw accurately using ‘Drawing Envelopes’. Consideration was also given to Composition, Using different weights of line & Markmaking.

The view from the workshop window perfectly complimented our first project ‘Berries and Birds’.

Micklems Farm are also a ‘flower farm’ where you can ‘pick your own’ flowers - look at these beautiful Dahlia - Mother Nature excelled herself here!

I’m always really keen that students are able to express their own creativity and style…not just copy mine. They all learned to draw the same reference material but where they placed them and how they chose to add detail with the fine liners was completely up to them. I hope that this first project has given them confidence going forwards that they can draw anything using the ‘drawing envelope’ method. Every different thing you try to draw has its own challenges in the of scale, proportion and detail …it’s about learning to put the big shapes in first, looking to use the negative spaces around the object to help you to draw it accurately.

2 weeks ago they were telling me they couldn’t draw! So I was really proud of them and their end results. Some ‘ligtbulb moments’ along the way too which is lovely as the teacher.
