LIFE DRAWING & SALSA

I’ve been learning to dance salsa since September…there are a striking number of parallels: being in a life drawing class to being in a salsa class…for a start - there is nowhere to hide! It’s raw, and immediate…it requires you to connect, be vulnerable, prepared to fail, to trust your partner, trust your instincts, be present: in the moment…. Life drawing is also a live non verbal collaboration, between you and the model.  Your aim is to capture emotion, convey a feeling, dance to the beat: draw the figure, but with expression and feeling and flair.  A cyclical giving and receiving that amounts to something greater than the sum its parts.

Our model for these first two poses was transgender. My attempts here to capture her extreme vulnerability, bravery and contemplation.

Still one of my favourites this one.
