ALONG THE TOWPATH
ALONG THE TOWPATH 8” x 8”
I ended up walking some of the tow path in 'Hockey Heath' last week...it was truly beautiful....i'm not generally a landscape painter but I really wanted to capture the moment in paint. It has also inspired me to create a NEW ‘Impressionist Landscape’ One-Day Workshop. Keep your eye on the ‘Workshops’ tab for dates later in the year.
PROCESS PICS
Starting with a tonal sketch in yellow ochre (top right) to plot the lights, midtones and darks. I can tell from the tonal sketch that it’s a strong composition - it explodes from the centre like a firework!
Next in with some transparent ‘Burnt Sienna’ and ‘Sap Green’ (bottom left).
I really enjoyed seeing and mixing all the warm and cool greens. Directional brushstrokes help add texture, movement and interest to the piece. It was all about capturing the light here, through the trees, in the water on the canal and dappled on the towpath.
My original image…The canal boat is like treasure at the end of the rainbow!
